A unique event occurred when 12-year-old Sousen Ahmed joyously passed her final examinations and became the school’s youngest graduate in the 61-year history of Broward College.
The rector said at the graduation ceremony that Broward College is dedicated to developing the dreams of all of its students, regardless of age, and his comments rang with pride and gratitude as he recognized Sousen’s accomplishment.
Like most kids her age, Sousen likes to play Minecraft, watch Disney films, and dress in hats and hoodies.
She has a degree in biology, though, and she is adamant about doing well in her chosen career.
Despite her remarkable achievements, Sousen still intends to continue her education in microbiology at the prestigious University of Florida.
Sousen, a native of Rhode Island, displayed astounding academic prowess in his early years.
She had a level of precocity that shocked her parents, Drs. Vesam and Gina Ahmed, speaking in complete sentences by the age of 15 months and reading and writing proficiently by the age of two.
Sousen persevered through distance learning, defying expectations and graduating from high school at the age of nine, despite the hesitation of regular schools to accept a child genius.
Sousen dismisses any sense of remorse when asked if she has any about the lost years of her youth.
She insists that her amazing academic journey has not replaced the pleasures and experiences of a conventional upbringing and that she has never looked back with regret.
“In all honesty, I have no regrets. I engage in many of my peers’ activities. College was an extra, but it didn’t take the place of my childhood, Sousen asserts.
The inspiring tale of Sousen Ahmed is proof of the unflappable spirit and limitless potential that exist in young people.
Her relentless commitment to learning and steadfast resolve have enabled her to surpass expectations and challenge social norms.
